It is quite difficult to be away more than five days in a row from the office, and instead have been working four day work weeks this summer. Being less than a two hour drive from some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, socked between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, the three day multiple mini vacations have been a great chance to explore the Rocky Mountain Front.
I would like to share a slide show of our adventures this weekend, a stay at Wood Lake campground, about five miles beyond the trail head to Crown Mountain. A failed attempt to the summit, but a very successful, enjoyable time together trying.
Wood Lake Campground
Enjoying the campfire
Starting up Crown Mountain Trail
On the trail to Crown Mountain, seen just above tree line
Can you see the waterfall from Whitewater Creek?
Haystack Butte between the two trees, smokey skies from the Hamilton fires
Heading towards the low pass with Crown Mountain to the right
Can you see my daughter up on the pass?
Wife and daughter going over the pass
Beyond the pass towards Benchmark & Patrol Mountain
Soon to find out the scree becomes too steep
My brother forged ahead and found some sheep, he is barely visible
My brother found some furry friends
Working my way up the scree but heading back east, going higher than the rest
Continuing to the east and going higher on the scree
Close to the rocky cliffs of Crown Mountain
Looking down on how we should have approached the top
Looking east towards Haystack Butte just before descending
My daughter found this fossil in the scree, a reminder that remnants of the sea can be found in the peaks of the Rockies
